Why refits

Why Regular Refits Protect Both Your Extensions and Your Own Hair

Short answer. As hair grows the bond moves away from the scalp, and past a certain distance it starts to pull. A timely refit removes that pull before it becomes damage.

A refit is not optional. It is the single most important thing you can do to protect both the hair you paid for and the hair growing underneath it.

As your natural hair grows the bond travels downward from the scalp. After two to four months, depending on your growth rate, it sits far enough from the root to create traction. Traction means pulling. Pulling means stress on the follicle.

Left too long, that stress causes breakage at the root, thinning around the bond, and tangling where the grown-out section meets the bonded one. A timely refit eliminates all three. The bond returns to the scalp. The weight redistributes. The hair moves freely again.

Book before you notice looseness or discomfort, not after. The ideal window is every 8 to 12 weeks for most clients, though faster growth may call for a 6 to 8 week cycle.

Step by step

How the Refit Works, Step by Step

Short answer. Four stages. Dissolve, recondition, re-bond, adjust. Two to four hours from start to finish.

Step one. Gentle removal. Each bond is dissolved with a protein-based remover. Not acetone, not a harsh solvent. It works specifically on the keratin compound, softening it until the bond slides off without pulling or breaking. Keratin makes up around ninety percent of hair, which is why a protein remover dissolves the bond and leaves your own hair structure intact. Removal takes 30 to 45 minutes for a full head.

Step two. Inspection and reconditioning. Every strand of Slavic hair is inspected individually. Tangles, dryness, colour fading, structural change. Each strand is then washed, deep-conditioned with keratin treatments and carefully detangled using techniques that preserve the cuticle alignment. This is what allows the same strands to perform at original quality through several cycles.

Step three. Fresh keratin. New Italian keratin goes onto each reconditioned strand. The same three bond weights are available at the refit as at the first fitting: micro at 0.5g for medium to thick hair, nano at 0.3g for fine hair and discreet placement, invisible at 0.2g for the most delicate cases including hair as short as 5 cm, thinning areas and baby hair at the temples. Re-bonding takes two to three hours.

Step four. Placement adjustment. Hair does not grow evenly. Some areas thicken since the original fitting, others thin. Density, distribution and blend get re-evaluated at every refit and adjusted so the result stays natural. If extensions are part of a growth plan, this is when we measure progress, shorten the extension length as your own hair catches up, and update the plan.

Guarantee

The 12-Month Hair Guarantee and What It Covers

Short answer. The guarantee covers the hair, not the bonds. Bonds are rebuilt fresh each time. The hair serves three to four full cycles.

Every set of premium Slavic hair from AV Extension carries a 12-month quality guarantee from the date of the original fitting. Bonds are rebuilt from fresh keratin at every refit, so they are not what the guarantee is about.

The hair, cared for properly, keeps its softness, shine, tangle resistance and natural movement through several refit cycles inside that window. You pay for the hair once and re-bond it repeatedly. That makes it the most economical route to long-term extensions.

Where

Refits at the Studio or at Your Home

Short answer. Same equipment, same keratin, same process, either location.

Refits happen at the Catford studio, fifteen minutes from London Bridge with private parking, or at your home across central London: Mayfair, Knightsbridge, Chelsea, Kensington, Belgravia, Notting Hill, Westminster, Canary Wharf, Marylebone and St John's Wood.

Many clients who had their first fitting at home carry on through their whole refit journey without ever visiting the studio. The equipment travels. The result stays the same.

On the day

What to Expect on the Day

Short answer. Two to four hours, quieter and more methodical than the first fitting, because the placement decisions are already made.

Removal, inspection, reconditioning and re-bonding happen strand by strand in a steady rhythm. Some clients bring a book. Some watch something on their phone. Some fall asleep in their own living room while the work goes on.

The most common thing people say is that a refit feels like a reset, as though the extensions have just gone in for the first time, but with the comfort of knowing exactly what is coming.

Every refit includes a refreshed aftercare plan. Your hair may have changed since the last appointment. New products may be needed, sleeping habits may need adjusting, heat protection advice may need updating. Everything gets reviewed. WhatsApp support carries on throughout every wear period between refits.

Between refits

What Happens Between Refits

Short answer. The bonds are waterproof, heat-resistant and built for daily life. Two small habits keep them that way.

You can wash, blow-dry, straighten or curl up to 200°C, swim with a protective serum, exercise, sleep and travel without worrying about the bonds. Premium Slavic hair moves, shines and holds a style exactly like your own, because the intact cuticle makes the fibre behave like hair grown from your scalp.

The only routine change is a two-minute morning detangle, starting at the ends and working upward with a soft brush, and the nightly habit of gathering the hair into a loose plait or a silk wrap before bed. Those two habits alone extend the life of each wear cycle and keep the bonds secure until the next refit.

The signs

Signs Your Bonds Need a Refit

Short answer. Time is the most reliable sign, but there are physical ones too.

The clearest signal is the calendar. If 8 to 12 weeks have passed since the last fitting or refit, book.

The physical signs. Bonds that have travelled more than 2 cm from the scalp. Increased tangling at the root, especially first thing in the morning. A feeling of heaviness or pulling that was not there in the first weeks. Bonds you can see when you run a hand through your hair near the roots. Any single bond that spins or slides.

If you notice any of these, message us and we will tell you honestly whether an immediate refit is needed or whether the next scheduled appointment is soon enough.

Refit or new

Refit or a Full New Set?

Short answer. A refit reuses your existing hair and rebuilds only the bonds. A new set replaces both.

Inside the 12-month guarantee, refits are the standard approach. Slavic hair is built to last through three to four cycles when properly maintained.

After the guarantee period we assess whether the existing strands can carry on for another cycle or whether fresh hair makes sense. That assessment happens at every refit, and there is never pressure to buy new hair before it is genuinely needed.

Some clients have worn the same set of Slavic strands the full twelve months across four cycles and the hair still performed beautifully at the last appointment. Others, particularly those who heat-style daily or swim often, reach the natural endpoint after two or three cycles. In both cases the assessment is based on the condition of the hair in front of us, not on a sales target or a date in the calendar.

Colour

Colour Matching at Every Refit

Short answer. Your root colour shifts over the months. We re-check the match each time.

Sun, swimming, heat styling and even seasonal hormonal changes alter the tone of your roots and mid-lengths between appointments.

At each refit the colour match between your own hair and the Slavic strands gets re-evaluated. Because premium Slavic hair keeps its full cuticle, it takes colour with predictable, even results. If a slight toning or adjustment is needed, we will advise on the best route, whether that means toning the extensions to match new growth or adjusting your salon colour to blend with the existing strands.

This attention to colour at every refit is what keeps extensions looking natural month after month, rather than developing the visible root mismatch that cheaper hair is known for.

Your schedule

Your Own Refit Schedule, Based on Your Growth Rate

Short answer. Slow growth, twelve weeks. Fast growth, six to eight. The variable is biology, not marketing.

Not everyone needs the same frequency. Women whose hair grows under a centimetre a month go comfortably to twelve weeks. Women growing a centimetre and a half or more may need six to eight.

A personalised schedule gets made at your first appointment based on your measured growth rate, bond weight, hair type and how you live. It gets reviewed and adjusted at every refit after that.

Some clients find their summer growth outpaces winter and shift to a six-week summer, ten-week winter pattern. Others hold a steady eight-week rhythm year round. The goal never changes. Bonds close to the scalp, weight spread evenly, hair moving freely. No pulling. No stress. No damage.

Pricing

What a Refit Costs in London

Short answer. It depends on bond count and hair condition. We quote in writing after inspection and then fix it.

The price covers removal, reconditioning, fresh Italian keratin, re-bonding and continued guarantee cover. No hidden charges on the day.

A free WhatsApp consultation gives you the figure before you book anything. The in-studio consultation is 50 GBP and includes five trial bonds in your own hair, hair analysis, a growth plan and aftercare recommendations, and that sum comes off the full set.

We do not publish a fixed price list, deliberately. Two clients with the same bond count can need very different amounts of work depending on how the hair has held up.

Mistakes

Mistakes That Damage Extensions Between Refits

Short answer. Almost all the damage that happens between appointments is preventable, and it comes down to five habits.

Sleeping without a silk or satin pillowcase creates friction that roughens the cuticle and encourages tangling at the bond.

Shampoos containing sulphates strip the natural oils that keep both your hair and the extensions supple.

Conditioner applied directly to the bond weakens the keratin over time and causes premature loosening.

Brushing from the root instead of starting at the ends puts traction on the bond that accumulates over weeks.

Swimming in chlorinated water without a protective serum degrades the hair faster than any single other factor.

Every one of these is addressed in your aftercare plan, updated at each refit to reflect your current hair and lifestyle. The plan includes specific products, washing technique and a morning detangle that takes under two minutes. It is written for your hair type, your bond weight and your goals, not printed from a leaflet.

Fine and short hair

Refits for Fine Hair, Short Hair and Hair Loss

Short answer. Lighter bonds, shorter cycles, and a protocol that puts the health of your own hair first.

Refits on fine or thin natural hair need particular attention to weight. As hair grows out, the traction effect is amplified on finer strands. We may recommend a shorter cycle of six to eight weeks, and may drop the bond weight at the refit if the original micro bonds can be replaced with nano at 0.3g or invisible at 0.2g as your own hair strengthens.

Clients with hair between 5 and 10 cm get refits that track the growth journey, gradually reducing the extension length as their own hair approaches the target.

Women dealing with hair loss from hormonal change, medical treatment or thinning receive a modified protocol that puts the health of the existing hair above everything else, with bond weight and placement adjusted at every session based on current density.

Hair diameter guides the choice. Baby hair measures 40 to 55 microns against 60 to 80 for standard adult strands, and that measurement decides the correct weight at each refit. It is not guesswork.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Hair Extension Maintenance

How often should keratin bonds be refitted?

Every 8 to 12 weeks depending on your natural growth rate. Faster growth means the bond travels away from the scalp sooner, creating traction that stresses the root. Your growth pattern gets assessed at the first fitting and a personalised schedule follows from that.

Does the removal damage natural hair?

No. Removal uses a protein-based remover that dissolves only the keratin bond without affecting your own hair. Keratin makes up around ninety percent of hair composition, and the remover targets only the bond compound. No pulling, no tugging, no breakage.

Can the same Slavic hair be re-bonded several times?

Yes. Premium Slavic hair is built to last through three to four refit cycles within the 12-month guarantee. At each refit the hair is professionally reconditioned, inspected and re-bonded with fresh keratin. You pay for the hair once and re-bond it repeatedly.

How long does a full refit take?

Two to four hours. Removal of the existing bonds takes 30 to 45 minutes, then inspection and reconditioning of each strand, then re-bonding with fresh keratin over two to three hours. Available at the studio or at your home.

Is the at-home refit the same as the studio one?

Identical. The same tools travel, the same protein remover, the same reconditioning treatments and the same fresh Italian keratin. The service covers ten central London areas and the guarantee applies equally.

What if a bond loosens between appointments?

Occasional loosening happens, especially with very fine hair or during seasonal shedding. Message us and we will tell you whether it needs immediate reattachment or can wait for the next scheduled refit. Individual bond repairs are available at the studio and at home.

How much does a refit cost?

It depends on your bond count and the condition of the hair. A written quote comes from the free WhatsApp consultation before anything is booked. The price covers removal, reconditioning, fresh keratin, re-bonding and continued guarantee cover, with no charges added on the day.

Can very short hair of 5 to 10 cm be refitted?

Yes. Using invisible 0.2g bonds with baby hair, extensions get re-bonded on very short hair with the same invisible result. The growth plan is updated at every refit to track progress toward your target length.

My hair colour has shifted since the last appointment. Is that a problem?

No. The colour match gets re-checked at every refit. Premium Slavic hair keeps its full cuticle, so it accepts toning with predictable results. We will advise whether to tone the extensions to your new growth or adjust your salon colour to blend.

Should I wash my hair before a refit appointment?

Arriving with clean, dry hair free of styling product helps. Hairspray and strong hold products interfere with the remover and lengthen the appointment. Your hair gets washed during the refit anyway, so there is no need to style it beforehand.
